Skeeter

We are Jo and Pete Voight and this is our Skeeter.  He is part of our family and allows us to live with him. He had the normal issues a nine week old kitten would have (worms and fleas), but after vaccinating and treating him he grew up to be a normal active adult cat.

Unfortunately, he became a little overweight. We became concerned and brought him in to see Dr. Sallee. We started him on a diet food Dr. Sallee recommended and after 2 years he lost 3 pounds. We were so thrilled and thought his weight loss was fantastic!

We are extremely pleased with his care at Cherokee Hospital for Animals. The entire staff is wonderful and their love of pets shows.

Baron Von Howell

My name is Bryan Howell and this is Baron Von Howell.  He was a stray and found us when he was five months old.

Baron and his sister Wuzzle escaped from our backyard.  Baron was hit and dragged under a car for a few feet.  Both of his back legs were badly damaged.  We rushed him to the emergency clinic where he almost died from blood loss and shock.

We transferred him to Cherokee for continued treatment.  One leg was saved quickly, but the other became very infected and the possibility of an amputation was very likely.  I wanted to do everything possible to save the leg and luckily through lots of antibiotics, band-ages and love the leg is not only healing but may possibly be close to normal.

I have spoken to Baron and he said he greatly appreciates the love and treats he receives at Cherokee.  He said he has learned from his experience and he will never escape again.  I feel very lucky that Dr. Sallee and Dr. Simpkins were able to get the infection under control.

Everyone at Cherokee loves EVERY animal that comes through the door.  I have spent a lot of time in their office and feel very qualified to make that statement.  Baron is very famous here and gets special treatment every time he walks in the door
Subject: Baron says hello!

Baron Von Howell ------

I just thought I'd give everybody a Baron von Howell update.

We run about 20 miles per week and play fetch like crazy! About two months ago, he hit a growth spurt and got even bigger. He's not nearly the same dog. He's nearly 80 pounds, has tons of energy and the fur has almost grown back over the worst of his two scarred legs. I can't hardly carry him like I used to. He's too long.

So if somebody comes in and they are thinking about giving up on their injured puppy - tell them about Baron. It will at least make them think!

Delilah Fain

We are Kay & Judith and this is our baby Delilah. She is a special part of our family and our favorite dog. Delilah is normally a very active dog so when she became completely lethargic and started vomiting we became very concerned. She would not eat or drink and deteriorated rapidly in 24 hours. We thought maybe she had been poisoned from a piece of bark she chewed. We brought her in to Dr. Sallee and after 3 days of hospitalization, medication and lab work she started getting better and had a total recovery in one  week. We feel great about Delilah’s progress. We appreciate the calm optimism of Dr. Sallee & the opportunity to visit Delilah during her stay.

Wrapper Sayers

We are Robin & Dusty Sayers and this is our dog, Wrapper. We found Wrapper at a cemetery. We had been wanting a dog and she was our Christmas miracle.

We brought her to the vet and she was diagnosed with ringworm, an ear infection, a bacterial skin infection, malnurished, heart murmur, worms and mange. Dr. Simpkins prescribed medication to help treat her issues and now she is doing much better. We are pleased with her progress. She is very healthy, happy & frisky and acts like a puppy.

The staff at Cherokee Hospital for Animals are very friendly and encouraging. We were even able to get treatment during the Christmas holiday.

Cricket Lancaster

Our baby Cricket is normally a happy-go-lucky boy, so when he started acting odd we became worried. He then started vomiting anything he ate and we rushed him in to the clinic. Dr. Simpkins examined him and found he had a blockage. I was so worried about him having surgery.

Dr. Simpkins removed the blockage and kept him hospitalized for one week. He received fluids and daily medications to help him recover.  I would call daily and it was so great to get an update on his care.

Now he is fantastic. He is energized and back to his normal active self. He loves showing off his scar and all the attention he gets from it. The staff was great. I appreciate the genuine concern everyone showed and the patience they have with me. I also appreciate their competence in being able to find the problem and take care of it.

Eddie Miller

My baby, Eddie is a special pet. He is a service dog to several hospitals and nursing homes. He brings a smile to everyone he sees!

I am a widow and recently moved here from Washington, DC. He filled a hole in my heart and has become my best pal. The service we do makes me feels loved and respected!

Sassey Nave

My name is Patsy Nave and this is my cat Sassey.  I don't have any children and she is like my daughter.  She is a big part of our family.

Sassey started to break out under her neck because of her allergies. I immediately called and was able to bring her in to be examined.  Dr. Simpkins treated Sassey and, after giving her the medicine as direct-ed, Sassey began to do much better.

I appreciate how everyone really loves the animals and they always give Sassey extra attention when they see her.

Sassey has been seen by Dr. Simkins and Dr. Sallee and I know anytime she has a flare up they both will give her excellent treat- ment and attention.

Cricket

I am Cricket, my family loves me so much that when I hurt, they hurt too. I started having problems going to the bathroom. I was straining and then had blood coming from my rectum.

My family, Diane Bailey & William Smith, brought me to see Dr. Sallee. Thank goodness she was here, she diagnosed me with a ruptured anal gland. I was given a steroid injection and antibiotics to go home.

Everyone here treats me so well, that sometimes I don’t want to go home. I know I am in good hands whenever I come here.

I am back to normal now and doing well. My owners said that Dr. Sallee and her staff explained everything well and the treatment was a success.

Boss Branch

Hi, my name is Boss and I started feeling poorly. I was vomiting and just did not feel like eating. It may be due to the silk plant I ate! My mommy and daddy, James and Betty Branch, brought me to the hospital.

Dr. Sallee examined me and then kept me overnight. I had several x-rays, which showed some type of object in my belly The Dr said it could be a hairball or that silly silk plant. The technicians gave me several shots the Dr recommended to keep me from vomiting. The enema was a little embarrassing, but the next day I felt better and since I passed that uncomfortable object, I was able to go home.

I am doing fine now, back to my old self. My parents were very worried about me and they like to keep a closer eye on me now, but I think I learned my lesson.

Sebastian

My name is Sebastian, and it is my job to protect my mom and our home.  I take my job very seriously, but sometimes I get hurt by unwanted visitors.  My most recent encounter with the enemy left a puncture wound on top of my head.  Mom brought me quickly to Cherokee Hospital for Animals as she always does after my fights.  Thank goodness I have Dr. Sallee in my corner.  She takes really good care of me every time, no matter what trouble I get myself into.  Dr. Sallee tells me I need to stop getting into fights but it is so hard to tuck my tail between my legs and run!

Thanks to everyone at Cherokee Hospital For Animals for keeping me healthy so I can do my job.

Obie Younce

My name is Opie Younce and this is my story… I am an 11 year old bluepoint Persian that used to have a lot of jaw problems.  My jaw used to lock open and I wouldn’t be able to eat or drink, and my best friend, Lori, would bring me to Cherokee Hospital For Animals.  There Dr. Simkins or Dr. Sallee would have to sedate me, but I would wake up able to move my jaw again.  When it started happening more often they referred me to UT for surgery, and my jaw hasn’t locked since I came back.  Even though I got a lot of tender loving care at Cherokee Hospital For Animals I am glad my jaw hasn’t caused me to have to return.

Awesome Bob

Congratulations to Awesome Bob from the entire staff at Cherokee Hospital for Animals.  Awesome Bob has been a patient at our practice for the last 5 years. We would like to recognize him and all his accomplishments. Below is his story and photos.

My name is Danny France and I have a seven year old golden retriever named “Awesome Bob”.   He is one of my best friends.  A few years ago my grandson Derek and “Awesome Bob” were in a race called the Ani-mile in Kingsport, TN benefiting the Kingsport Shelter.  “Awesome Bob” and my grandson Derek have participated in this race for two years—2007 and 2008.  At the 2007 race “Awesome Bob” and my grandson won 4th place and in 2008 they won 1st place in the race (see picture of my grandson Derek and “Awesome Bob” crossing the finish line)!  The prize awarded to “Awesome Bob” and my grandson Derek was a trophy from Frontline with a Dog Paw imprint (as shown in the picture).  I am so lucky to have Bob, a wonderful and loyal canine companion who is like a member of the family.  We look forward to more adventures and maybe races for “Awesome Bob”.

Misty

My name is Marilyn McCullough and I would like to share my story about my companion Misty.  She has been by my side through a lot of hard times to comfort me.

Recently Misty became very ill.  I rushed her to Cherokee Hospital for Animals where Dr. Simpkins hospitalized her for vomiting.  After several test and x-rays the doctor called me at home to let me know something showed in the x-rays that should not be there.  Misty needed exploratory surgery to remove the foreign body.  It terrified me to hear Misty was going to have surgery.  I was afraid I was going to lose her.  Dr. Simkins explained the surgery to me, her knowledge and compassion eased my mind.

Dr. Simpkins saved my baby’s life.  She removed an almond from Misty’s small intestine that had her blocked.

Thank God for these loving, caring people at Cherokee Hospital for Animals!

Apollo Rice

My name is Appollo Rice and I have the best mom!  I ate pork rib bones and they made me so sick.  I had nausea and vomiting.  I thought mom would be really mad at me for eating something I know that I shouldn’t.  Instead she was very worried and took me to Cherokee Hospital for Animals.  Dr. Simkins did x-rays on me.  The x-rays showed I had rib bones stuck in my stomach and I needed surgery a.s.a.p.  Everyone at the hospital was great to mom and me.  I felt great after surgery.  I went home and bounced off the walls.  The doctor and mom both told me not to be jumping around.  But I was feeling so good, that the next thing I knew I had ripped open my incision.  Again, I thought mom would be mad.  She is so wonderful, she picked me up and took me back to Cherokee Hospital for Animals.  Dr. Sallee saw me this time.  She explained to mom I needed surgery again a.s.a.p.  This time after I went home I took it easy.  Today I am completely recovered and I want to tell everyone at Cherokee Hospital for Animals, thanks for taking care of me and for being so kind to my mom

Gidget

My husband and I were so excited the day we picked up our new puppy.  But our excitement soon turned to concern.  In just a few days our precious puppy Gidget became very ill.  She was limp in our hands when we arrived with her at Cherokee Hospital for Animals.  We did not think she had a chance when Dr. Simpkins said she would hospitalize her.  She was diagnosed with coccidiosis and after several days of IV fluids, injections and the tender loving care of the entire staff we have a healthy happy puppy.

Many thanks to everyone at Cherokee Hospital for Animals.  Our dogs are like family to us.  We would not take them anywhere else!!
