Powder

My name is Powder. I’m a good cat, but adventurous. New and exciting undertakings are hard to come by when you’re cooped up inside the house all day. Don’t get me wrong, it’s a great life, and my mother loves me very much…but sometimes I need to get away, to experience life beyond my own personal realm.

It wouldn’t be difficult; I’d simply have to wait for Mom to leave for work then sneak out the door without her noticing. Usually, I get what I want and this plan was no exception. As soon as my Mom opened the door to leave for work I darted out without her being the wiser. My new adventure was at hand- but who knew it would become a little more than I bargained for?

There I was, mindin’ my own business and doing what cats do…then Wham! I can’t even explain it, everything happened so fast! The next thing I knew, I had a swollen jaw and it didn’t seem to be getting any better. My adventure, turned nightmare, was quickly realized by my mother when she found me outside our home. For a moment I didn’t know who was more worried, me or Mom? One simple fact remained, I needed help and I needed her help to get it! Already this adventure idea was becoming far more than I was hoping for.

Fortunately, Mom chose to call on Cherokee Hospital for Animals. The swelling around my jaw had gotten worse, and the good people at Cherokee were quick to respond, making sure that I received immediate attention. It took some effort, and a little anesthesia, but Dr. Sallee brought down the swelling, and cleaned out the abscess. I’m home now, relaxing comfortably. Occasionally, I’ll glance out the window and consider taking another stroll into the unknown…then again, maybe not.  Thank you so much, Dr. Sallee!

Deisel P. Cole

Hello, my name is Deisel P. Cole, the “P” is for Personality! I’m here to tell ya, I’ve been one sick boy! Back ‘round Memorial Day of this year I started throwing up something fierce; ya see, I have tendencies to hunt and eat chipmunks, and it would appear I ate me a bad one. My Mom told me not to worry cause she was taking me to see the very best doctors! She wasted no time in taking me to Cherokee Hospital for Animals where Mom and I both were very fortunate to meet the hospital’s new health provider, Doctor Lapthorne! She immediately examined my symptoms, and performed several X-Rays. There was some blockage in my tummy, thanks to that rotten chipmunk, no doubt! But given time, I soon got much better! Doctor Lapthorne called at least 3 times a week just to enquire about my well being, which Mom and I thought was real nice. She loves me!
Admittedly, Mom and I thought Dr. Lapthorne looked rather young to be practicing veterinarian medicine, but don’t let her youthful appearance fool ya! She’s gotta lifetime of knowledge and such sincere compassion for all her furry patients! I highly recommend her to all my ailing friends- too bad ya gotta feel sickly to see her though. Mamma Cole and I thank you so much for all you do! We love you!

Sincerely,
Linda and Diesel Cole

Olive

My husband and I were driving on the Interstate when we saw something fall from underneath a truck. We quickly stopped and to our surprise found a small kitten. Her eyes were badly
injured and we did not know what other injuries she may have that we could not see. She only weighed one pound and was unable to open her eyes. She looked so pitiful. We weren’t sure she
would survive.

We are so thankful we found Cherokee Hospital for Animals. Dr. Sallee has given us a miracle. Under her care Olive is a different kitten now. We are thrilled with her progress. It has been such a joy watching her eyes clear & seeing her put on weight and getting the crazy amounts of  energy that normal kittens have! Our lives have been enriched more then we could have imaged. Olive is a goofy little thing that continues to entertain us we her antics. We also enjoy those cuddle moments even though it’s hard to keep her still for very long!

Jodie

Hello, my name is Jodie. I came to Cherokee Animal Hospital to get my front paw declawed. Everything was going fine until I got home. I am really active, so I ran around the house against my owner’s wishes. When she picked me up she noticed that I had a funny looking part on my paw. She did not know at the time that my paw was actually ripped open. Three days later my family began to worry, and called the vet. They said that my paw was in fact ripped open. They said my family should take me to them and, they would fix my paw. I got home and ripped it open again, so the next day they took me back. The vet fixed it, my family brought me home, I ripped it open, they took me back the same day, the vet fixed it again, they gave me a cone, my family took me home, and I managed to get the cone off and once again rip my paw open. My family was tired of getting my paw fixed, taking me home, and having to turn around and take me back to the vet because I ripped it open again. So, they told the vet that they had decided to board me there. I stayed there for about two weeks. At first I would not eat anything because I missed my home, but after awhile I got settled in and started to eat. After the two weeks were up I got to go home. I was very happy to be home and the next day I would celebrate my owner’s 13th birthday. I am now a very happy cat. (Sept. 2010)

Boo Bear

Meet our Boo Bear. One day we noticed Boo Bear was not walking right; he was only using three legs. We were very concerned because in the back of our minds we were scared it could have been a back or neck injury. He is our baby (he’s everything to us) !
We called Cherokee Hospital for Animals and were immediately seen upon arrival by Dr. Sallee. After the exam, an appointment to a specialist at The University of Tennessee was scheduled. Boo Bear had injured his back. He had to have surgery.
The staff at Cherokee Hospital for Animals showed great care and concern before and after Boo Bear’s surgery. The follow up phone calls really helped ease our minds and to reassure that Boo Bear was going to be fine.
Today Boo Bear is doing great! We are doing everything possible to make sure this injury does not occur again; we almost had him broken from jumping on and off the furniture! Thank goodness for Cherokee Hospital for Animals.

Sam Gavin

Over the last month my pal Sam started eating less and less. He actually stopped eating altogether.  When I brought Sam to Dr. Sallee, a staff member had to carry him in because he was too weak to walk.  Sam was hospitalized immediately. I was heartbroken to leave him.  I was so afraid I would never see my best friend  again. Dr. Sallee kept Sam hospitalized over the weekend and when I picked him up he was a completely different dog.  To me it was a miracle! He walked to the car!  Within several days at home, he was back to his normal self. I was so amazed at his fast recovery.  Every staff member at  Cherokee Hospital for Animals was so kind and gentle with Sam & me. The concern and care that Sam received was priceless!  Sam & I both would like to thank everyone at Cherokee Hospital  for Animals.

Kera Bowman

This is my Kera. She came into my life through my daughter. I first started out dog sitting Kera. We became very close and when she was not with me I missed her deeply. Due to the relationship I have with her & my daughter's busy schedule she came to live with me permanently.

I took Kera in to see Dr. Sallee at Cherokee Hospital for Animals when she started having problems with her skin. She was scratching & chewing all the time. Kera's skin issues where even more serious then I could have imagined. Turned out Kera had an antibiotic resistant staph skin infection. Kera was treated with antibiotic injections and subcutaneous fluids everyday for a few weeks.

Kera's skin has improved tremendously. Her scratching day and night have stopped. This is to my great relief not only to me but to Kera as well.  We could not have asked for better service and kindness than that at  Cherokee Hospital for Animals.

Gilroy

I would like for you to meet my best buddy, Gilroy. Gilroy is a friendly and rambunctious English bulldog. We are the only two in my home which has led to a very close bond between us. He is very much like a son to me. We are inseparable!

Gilroy has been treated for an assortment of allergies, infections and ailments. Even though he has these issues the doctors and staff work with care and compassion to treat Gilroy. Dr. Sallee is currently treating his latest allergy flare and his skin is already showing some improvement.

Gilroy and I love the way each and every member of the Cherokee Hospital for Animals staff genuinely show concern about his health and how he is treated. We look forward to his continued care and great service. As a pet owner, this means the world!

Sierra Swihart

Hi my name is Trevor. My mom recently got me a new puppy named Sierra. We quickly became best friends. I love her with all my heart and wanted to make sure she was in the best of health. My mom called Cherokee Hospital for Animals and made her an appintment with Dr. Simpkins to get her shots and make sure she was a growing healthy puppy.

I was nervous the first time that I took her to see Dr. Simpkins, but everyone was so nice and even knew her by name when I walked in the door!! I thought that Sierra would be nervous but she was anxious to say hi to everyone there. I was so grateful to have such a loving and caring vet. Dr. Simpkins told me that Sierra was healthy and was growing like a weed. She gave her shots to make sure she didn’t get sick. Dr. Simpkins even told me everything I needed to do at home to make sure Sierra continues to grow and stay healthy. There was a lot to remember but I knew I could do it to make sure my best friend stayed healthy as could be!

I am so glad we went to see Dr. Simpkins and the staff  at Cherokee Hospital for Animals. Now I get to watch Sierra
grow up and develop her own personality. I’m so very grateful
I don’t have to worry about her being sick because I know she received the best care.

Cleo

Orphaned at birth, we had to do everything her real mom would have done for a newborn puppy. Bottle feeding & keeping her warm was a full time job for awhile. Cleo is one of only two puppies that survived; mom had 7 puppies. She is very special to us. Both puppies were cared for by Dr. Lapthorne & the staff at Cherokee Hospital for Animals.

The staff become so attached one of the receptionist adopted Cleo’s brother, Willie.Cleo and Willy were slow to develop in the beginning but thanks to the love and care by their new owners, they are playful, energetic and full of life. They have both moved passed their developmental milestones and are moving into the next challenging phase of their maturity. Thanks again for everything.

Boss

Our cat Boss is a very special and important member of our family. We were concerned when he started showing signs that he was not feeling well. He was urinating very frequently and there was also some vomiting. We brought him in to Cherokee Hospital for Animals to see what could be done to make him feel better. Dr. Sallee recommended x-rays which showed stones in his bladder. I can only image how much pain he must have been in. Our first thought was he was going to have to have surgery to remove the stones. Dr. Sallee suggested first we should start Boss on a prescription diet called SO by Royal Canin that may dissolve them. After two subsequent visits x-rays showed Boss’ bladder to be free of stones. We were very happy with the way we were treated by the entire staff and Boss is clearly much happier as well.

Yayo

Hello, my name is Bruce and I want to share a story with you about my dearest four legged friend, Yayo. I always knew that he had growths on his body but they never seemed to bother him. He was happy and playful as always. One morning I woke up and noticed that Yayo was bleeding. I investigated and found out that one of his growths on his left rear leg was bleeding. I just knew that he had to be uncomfortable.
I called Cherokee Hospital for Animals and they got me in first thing that morning with Dr. Lapthorne. Dr. Lapthorne looked at his leg and was able to bandage it and sent us home with some antibiotics. But you see Yayo is such a puppy at heart that he got the bandage off in no time. Worried that it would start bleeding again I called Dr. Lapthorne and she said to bring him right back in and that they would keep him overnight and would be able to do surgery on him the next day. I was nervous to leave him but I knew that he was in the best care. I picked Yayo up after his surgery and I was so relieved to see my best friend wagging his tail, even though he had his e-collar on!
Yayo now has his sutures out and is back to playing like a puppy again. I couldn’t thank Dr. Lapthorne and staff enough for the great hospitality that they showed us. Yayo loves all the attention that he received at Cherokee Hospital for Animals; he is always so excited to walk through the door.
