managed it since. I am a member of the American Veterinary Medical Association, a Hospital Director with the American Animal Hospital Association, a member of the Tennessee Veterinary Medical Association and the Tri-Cities Academy of Veterinary Medicine. For several years I have served on the Board of Directors for the Airport Pet Emergency Clinic.
On a personal note, I reside with my husband Mark Dison, an ETSU alum (GO BUCS!), in Jonesborough with our menagerie (2 dogs: Rusty and Cosmo (pictured above) and one cat: Phoebe). My favorite hobby is riding horses (I grew up in horse country) and I show Rise and Shine, my Thoroughbred, at local hunter/jumper shows. Mark & I also enjoy snow skiing, ski racing (slalom and giant slalom), scuba diving, underwater photography, camping, water activities and of course, following college sports.
Dr. Robin Simpkins!
Born in the great state of Alabama, I knew I wanted to be a veterinarian at a very young age. My first job was working in the office of our family veterinarian. I fell in love with the profession and decided to pursue my education in the field of veterinary medicine.
I went to undergraduate and veterinary school at Auburn University and graduated Magna Cum Laude in 1999. My husband and I met at the same university and were married in 1997 during our time at vet school. After he graduated and I had finished my first year of practice, we moved to Johnson City, Tennessee.
During our first move to Johnson City, I worked for Dr. Sallee part-time and at a veterinary office in Kingsport part-time. My husband and I moved back to Alabama due to his desire for his own practice and family obligations. While in Alabama, I was a member of a six-doctor clinic in Birmingham. It was there I mastered new skills in internal medicine, ultrasound and general surgery. I have a special interest for internal medicine. I enjoy focusing on warm communication and educating owners on what is best for their pets.
I have one child, a daughter, her name is Marin. She is five years old and attends Grandview Elementary school. My husband, Alan is a partner at a large animal hospital in the Tri-Cites. I enjoy spending time with my Marin. I did not know until she was born I could love one person so much. As a family, we care for our horses, mule, sheep, dogs and cats on our farm near Jonesborough. My husband, Marin and I love the outdoors; Marin and I also love to shop!
My practice of veterinary medicine has been so rewarding. I look forward to many years of treating and forming lasting relation- ships with my patients. I cannot imagine doing anything else.
Goodbye from Dr. Lapthorne
It’s with regret that I must inform all my
wonderful clients that I will soon be
leaving Cherokee Hospital for Animals.
My husband and I have had a great time
living in east Tennessee, and enjoying the things offered by the area. We have spent many happy hours on Watauga Lake, camp- ing on the Appalachian Trail, and biking along the Virginia Creeper Trail. However, we’ve continued to be drawn to the snow-covered mountains of Alaska and will be heading back there at the end of July.
I wanted to take a few moments to thank all of you for not only the pleasure of getting to know you and your pets, but also the privilege you provided me in allowing me to care for them. It means means a great deal to know I’m a trusted member of this wonderful profession, and that you feel we offer good quality service here at Cherokee. I trust you will continue to use Cherokee Hospital for Animals as a provider of veterinary care for your animals. I know your pets are in good hands with Dr. Sallee and Dr. Simpkins, and the amazing staff we have here. Thank you again!
